Where Does Our E-Waste Go?

According to the Basel Action Network,

80% of the electronic  waste harvested in the U.S., does not get processed at home, but is stowed on container ships, and is shipped off the countries like, Ghana, Somalia, China and Vietnam. Basel Action Network is a leading advocate of responsible e-waste collection and refining. The Computer and Technology Resource Center is not only fully supportive of such efforts,  it also practices
them.

Here’s another ‘wonderful’ fact–it is estimated that 70% of the heavy metals in landfills comes from discarded electronics–computer screens, desktops, TV sets, you name it. Plus, we are running out of places that accept waste.

So there is great pressure to divert these wastes offshore, just as some of the States have tried to relocate their garbage out-of-state.

There must be a better way.
