Lynwood Elementary School is a Pre-K – 5th grade school serving approximately 343 students. The school is an ethnically and economically diverse community and offers a variety of educational programs to meet the needs of all students. In addition to a strong core program, programs offered include: pre-school, English Language Development, self-contained 4th and 5th grade district Gifted and Talented Program, Title I academic interventions, ASES after school programs, PTA sponsored after school enrichment activities, and many other programs offered by all Novato schools.

Core academic program are supported by a Library Assistant, Computer Lab Assistant, Music and Physical Education Specialists and other key personnel. Staff members are encouraged to be lifelong learners, attend professional workshops and conferences, and are encouraged to work collaboratively. Information from professional conferences is brought back to other teachers to encourage piloting and implementation of new instructional strategies.

Several years ago, the school received a state grant – ASES – After School Educational and Safety grant, which provides for after school classes for approximately 84 students in grades 2 – 5. The program, called LEAP (Lynwood Elementary Afterschool Program) enables Lynwood to be open until 6:00 pm every school day, providing academic support, enrichment, and recreation classes.

In September 2010, Lynwood was awarded a Marin Community Foundation Early Success Grant. The grant is part of a County-wide initiative to level the playing field for all students, and promote a culture of universal achievement in which every child, without exception, will become proficient in reading, math and written language by grade three. The school is entering year six of the grant.

Teachers infuse visual and performing arts into the curriculum and by having grade level theme-based musical productions. In addition, Lynwood has established a partnership with Marin School of the Arts at Novato High School.

Message from Principal Cline:

Welcome to the Lynwood Family! It is a real joy to have the honor of guiding Lynwood this year, as we approach our goal of launching dual-immersion (Spanish/English) in August 2018! Our work with the Marin Community Foundation is in its seventh year and we are excited to introduce the usage of Edusnap, which will allow us to gather data on a student’s minute-by-minute learning experience, and FirstSchool’s Culture of Caring, which will help us to find the ideal way to invest relationally in our students and families.

This is my second year as Lynwood’s principal, after four years serving as San Ramon Elementary’s principal across town.

Prior to my time with NUSD, I served for 2 years as the principal at St. Helena Elementary, and a decade with Madera Unified as a vice principal, math coach, and K-8 teacher. I have a deep-seated interest in faith, family, friendship, and languages (yo hablo espanol).

Despite growing up in the Bay Area, I am a Dodgers fan, however, hockey is my absolutely favorite sport and I am also a devoted Sharks fan! There are few puzzles and children’s books that do not pique my interest. If I could recommend two books written strictly by human hands, they would be Carol Dweck’s Mindset (for the non-fiction lover) and George R. Stewart’s Earth Abides (for the fiction fan).

I am particularly intrigued by how we all learn through play and opportunities to pursue our natural curiosity and areas of strength. This year, I am pleased to share that all Lynwood teachers will be piloting at least one Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit that meets the education sector’s gold standard criteria.
